HyER member: Hamburg
Name of the project: Innovationslinie 109
Description: The Innovationslinie 109 – Innovation Line 109 – is a bus line operated by Hochbahn in Hamburg. On this line, Hochbahn is testing several new bus technologies: electric buses, hydrogen buses, hybrid buses. The aim is to tackle Co2 emissions as well as noise levels and to bring more comfort to the passengers. This also enables Hochbahn to test the advantages and disadvantages of the different technologies in real life operation.
The different technologies tested on the Innovationslinie are the following:
- Plug-in electric bus
- Hybrid diesel/hydrogen bus: 5 18m long diesel/hybrid buses made by EvoBus have been put into service.
- Electric bus with a hydrogen range extender
- Fuel cell hydrogen bus
In addition, specific studies were made covering the impact on fuel consumption with regard to route-specific parameters such as bus stop intervals and average speeds. This was done in order to best assign buses with (different) hybrid engines to respective routes.
Funding: Combination of local, national and European funding sources
